Titanic Belfast & City Coach Tour from Dublin

Two hours north by motorway, a timed visit to Titanic Belfast, then the city centre. The day runs 9 to 10 hours and the main visit is indoors, so it works in any weather and makes a good winter choice.

When it runs

  • Year-round; an all-weather winter option

The drive to Belfast

Belfast is about 165 km from Dublin, roughly two hours each way. From the city centre the coach can use the Dublin Port Tunnel, which has no toll for coaches with more than 25 seats, then the M1 north through the toll on the Drogheda bypass. Past Dundalk the road becomes the A1 in Northern Ireland and then the M1 into Belfast. With about four hours of driving in total, one driver covers the day comfortably within the drivers' hours rules.

Booking Titanic Belfast

Every ticket is pre-booked for a timed entry, and visitors should be there at least 15 minutes before their slot. Parties of 15 or more can book as a group; enquire at least two weeks ahead. School groups have a separate education booking. Pre-booked groups set down at one of the coach bays in the East Yard. The coach then moves to the designated coach parking and comes back to the same bay for pick-up. Allow 90 minutes to two and a half hours inside. Afterwards, walk out to the slipways where the Titanic was built, and the SS Nomadic is close by.

The afternoon in the city

Book a morning slot, have lunch in the city centre, then spend the afternoon at Belfast City Hall on Donegall Square. The driver confirms the nearest set-down to the hall. The political murals in west Belfast are optional and best seen with a local guide booked separately; tell the operator if you want the coach to take the group there. Leave the city before the evening rush so the group is back in Dublin at a sensible hour.

Who it suits and the cross-border basics

The day suits school and college history groups, conference delegates with a free day and anyone who wants an indoor option in winter. Belfast is in the UK. Shops and cafés take sterling, so bring pounds or a card, and road signs give distances and speed limits in miles. Nobody checks passports at the border as a matter of routine, but carry photo ID. Anyone who is not an Irish or British citizen should confirm the UK entry rules that apply to them before travelling.

Do we need a second driver for this day?

Not normally. Two hours each way leaves the driving well inside the daily limit. A much later finish, or a pick-up far from Dublin, is when the operator would look again.

Can we combine Titanic Belfast with the Giant's Causeway?

It makes a very long day. The Causeway is a separate full-day tour; if you want both, plan two days and sleep in Belfast in between.
