Blarney first, and early
Blarney is about 10 km north-west of Cork, around twenty minutes. Arrive at opening: the queue for the stone builds from late morning, when other tour groups arrive. Blarney Castle sells tickets online or at the gate and has no timed slots. It recommends about three hours for the castle and gardens; a group that only wants the stone and a walk through the grounds can do it in two. The castle is not wheelchair accessible; the climb to the stone is up narrow stairs, and children under eight kiss it at staff discretion. Blarney Woollen Mills sits beside the castle grounds.
Across to Kinsale
From Blarney the coach goes back round the city and south past Cork Airport on the R600 to Kinsale, about 25 km from Cork. Kinsale has no town-centre coach parking, so the coach sets the group down and moves to a parking point the driver confirms. The streets around the harbour are compact and walkable. Lunch in Kinsale fits here. The day is offered in a 16-seat minibus, a 29 to 35-seat midi coach or a 49-seat coach.
Charles Fort
Charles Fort is about 3 km from Kinsale, off the R600, and run by the Office of Public Works. It has its own coach parking, takes group bookings, and offers guided tours you can book online. In summer it opens daily from 10am, with last admission at 5pm; winter hours are shorter. The ramparts are high and the surfaces uneven, so keep children close. Most groups need about an hour there, longer with a guided tour.
Do we need to book Blarney Castle tickets in advance?
Not for a time slot, since there are none. Buying online or arranging group entry ahead still saves time at the gate on a busy summer morning.
Can people who cannot manage steps still enjoy the day?
Yes. Much of the Blarney grounds, the Woollen Mills and Kinsale town are on the level, though the castle tower is not accessible. The driver can set down close to each stop.
