Cork Airport to Cork City Centre by Coach or Minibus

The airport lies roughly 8 km from the city centre, on its southern edge, so this is among the shortest airport transfers in Ireland. The driving is quick. Most of the planning goes into the pickup at the terminal, the luggage, and where in the city the coach can stop for your hotel.

Pickup at the terminal

All bus and coach services at Cork Airport use the front of the single terminal building. The airport asks private coach hire and minibus operators to drop off and collect passengers at Bus Bay C or Bus Bay D. Your group comes through arrivals and out of the front doors to the bay. Send the flight number and landing time with the booking so a delay shows up before the coach sets off. Agree a gathering point in the arrivals hall, so nobody held up at baggage reclaim is left behind.

The road in

The coach leaves the airport onto the N27, the South Link Road, which runs north into the city past the junction with the N40 South Ring Road. The run takes about 18 minutes in light traffic. At the morning and evening peaks the South Link and the approach to the quays slow down, and the same trip can take half an hour. The scheduled airport bus allows around 25 minutes to reach Parnell Place, a fair guide on a busy weekday.

Luggage and vehicle size

Count bags as well as people. A full-size coach has underfloor luggage bays; a 16 to 19-seat minibus has a rear compartment of about two cubic metres, which fills quickly with golf bags, buggies or a band's instruments. If the group is near the limit of a minibus, ask for the next size up or a separate luggage van. For conference delegates landing on several flights, a smaller vehicle making two or three runs can work better than one large coach waiting for the last arrival.

Stopping in the city

Cork's centre sits on an island between two channels of the River Lee, and the hotel streets around St Patrick's Street and MacCurtain Street are busy, with one-way sections. A coach cannot always stop at a hotel door. Send the hotel names when you book and the driver confirms the nearest safe set-down for each. Hotels in Douglas or beside the airport keep the group clear of the city-centre traffic altogether.

How long does Cork Airport to the city really take?

About 18 minutes with clear roads. Allow half an hour at peak times, and longer if the coach is dropping at more than one hotel.

Does the driver wait if our flight is late?

The operator tracks the flight from the number you send, and the collection moves with the real landing. Terms for waiting are written on the quote.

Can we stop at Blarney or Kinsale on the way?

Yes. Kinsale is south of the airport on the R600 and Blarney is north-west of the city, so either can be a first stop before the hotel. Book the vehicle for the longer day.
