Cork to Blarney Castle by Coach or Minibus
Blarney village lies roughly 10 km out of Cork on the north-west side, about 20 minutes away by road. It works as a half-day on its own or as the first stop of a longer day. The short drive leaves most of your time for the castle, the climb to the Stone and the gardens.

About Blarney Castle
- A 15th-century tower house where visitors climb to kiss the Blarney Stone, said to bestow the gift of the gab, set in romantic rock gardens.

The drive out
From the city the coach heads north on the N20, the road for Mallow and Limerick, and turns off onto the R617 into Blarney village. The estate entrance is in the village. Traffic leaving the city centre at peak times is the main delay; from a hotel on the north side of the river the run is shorter. Blarney Castle has its own car park on the estate, which closes at the castle's closing time, so the coach needs to be away before then.
How long to allow
The castle advises a minimum of three hours for the castle plus its 100 acres of gardens. Groups content with the Stone and a short stroll can manage in less, but queues for the climb build at busy times, especially in summer. The climb goes up the castle tower to the battlements, where visitors lean back to kiss the Stone. The castle itself is not wheelchair accessible. Part of the grounds and gardens is, and staff ask to be told about any disability on arrival.
Pairing Blarney with something else
A morning at Blarney leaves the afternoon free. Groups often go on to the English Market and the city centre, or south to Kinsale for a harbour afternoon. The woollen mills shop sits in the village beside the estate, a short walk for anyone not climbing the tower. If you add a second stop, tell the operator at booking so the vehicle and driver are hired for the full day rather than a return transfer.
Choosing the vehicle
The roads to Blarney take any size of coach, so choose the vehicle for your headcount and luggage. A school group or a large tour party fills a full-size coach of 49 to 59 seats; a family or a small club fits a minibus. For a choir, a wedding party or a group of friends of 25 to 35, a midi coach in between is often the right size, with underfloor space for bags if the group goes on to a hotel afterwards.
Can the coach drop us at the castle entrance?
The coach uses the estate's own car park in Blarney village, close to the entrance. The driver confirms the exact stopping point when you arrive.
Does the driver wait while we visit?
On a return booking, agree with the driver a time to be back at the coach. Waiting arrangements and their terms appear on the quote.
Is Blarney Castle open all year?
Yes, the castle and gardens open all year round. Check the opening hours for your date, as they change with the season.
