West on the N25
The coach leaves Wexford on the N25 and heads west across the county to New Ross, where the bypass carries the road over the Barrow into County Kilkenny. The road then runs on to the north bank of the Suir opposite Waterford city, and the coach crosses into the centre at Rice Bridge. It is single carriageway for long stretches, so lorries and farm traffic affect the time more than the distance does.
Set-down for the Viking Triangle
The Viking Triangle is the oldest part of the city. Its museums sit a few minutes apart on foot: Reginald's Tower on the quay, with the Bishop's Palace and the Medieval Museum close by. Waterford Treasures, which runs them, publishes its coach arrangements: passengers alight on The Mall beside the Bishop's Palace, and the coach parks at Bolton Street, which also has a coach-cleaning facility. The crystal factory and showroom share The Mall, so one drop-off serves both. Groups are advised to book the museums ahead.
Building the day
A factory tour at the House of Waterford Crystal and one or two of the museums fill most of a day. The Waterford Greenway starts in the city for groups who want to walk or cycle a stretch, and Tramore is 20 minutes south for a late-afternoon walk by the sea. On the way home the coach can stop at New Ross for the Dunbrody Famine Ship. Agree the pickup time on The Mall before the group sets off.
Is the Ballyhack ferry quicker for a coach?
The Ballyhack to Passage East ferry crosses the harbour, but it sells its tickets for cars and small vans. A coach goes by road through New Ross.
How long does Wexford to Waterford take?
About 55 minutes with clear roads. Allow more at peak times around New Ross and Waterford's bridges, and on summer weekends.
Can we do Waterford and Kilkenny in one day from Wexford?
It makes a long day. Waterford to Kilkenny is about 50 minutes on the M9, and the run home from Kilkenny is over an hour, so pick one city unless the group starts early.
