Shannon Airport to Limerick City by Coach or Minibus
Limerick lies some 25 km east of Shannon Airport, linked to it by the N19 and the N18. Many transatlantic flights land in the early morning, so groups often arrive before their rooms are ready. This guide covers the pickup rules at the airport, the road in and the return run for departure.

Pickup rules at Shannon
At Shannon, minibuses and coaches are not allowed to park in front of the terminal, whatever the time of day. Instead they wait in one of the two coach and bus parks the airport provides; Coach Park 2, by departures, also takes hired minibuses. The driver meets the group in arrivals and walks them to the vehicle, or the group goes to the agreed coach park. Give the operator the flight number so the meeting time follows the actual landing.
The road into the city
The coach leaves the airport on the N19 and joins the N18 east, passing Bunratty on the way into Limerick. The run is about 25 minutes. Hotels on the Ennis Road are the first ones reached, with the city centre and the riverside next and Castletroy and the university on the far side of the city. The Limerick Tunnel, which is tolled, is only on the route if the group is going to the south of the city or straight on towards Kerry or Cork.
Early arrivals and departures
With rooms often not ready until the afternoon, groups landing early can stop at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, ten minutes from the airport, before going into the city. Going home, anyone bound for the United States passes through US preclearance at Shannon, doing American immigration and customs before boarding. That adds a step before the gate, so set the hotel pickup with the airline's advice on check-in time in mind.
Can the coach wait outside the terminal at Shannon?
No. Coaches and minibuses wait in the airport coach parks, not at the terminal kerb. The driver confirms where the group meets the vehicle.
Is there a toll between Shannon Airport and Limerick?
Not on the direct route into the city centre. The tolled Limerick Tunnel only comes into it if the destination is on the south side of the city or beyond.
Can we stop somewhere on the way into Limerick?
Bunratty is right on the route, so a stop there works well after an early landing. Tell the operator when you book so the timings allow for it.
