Limerick to Bunratty Castle by Coach or Minibus

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park stands just off the N18 in County Clare, about 15 km west of Limerick and ten minutes from Shannon Airport. Groups go by day for the castle and the folk park, or in the evening for the medieval banquet. The two visits need very different coach plans.

The road out of Limerick

The coach leaves the city on the Ennis Road and joins the N18, the road towards Shannon and Galway, then turns off for Bunratty. There is no toll on this line from the city centre. Bunratty offers free parking for its visitors, and the operator will say where the coach pulls in and parks. The run takes around 20 minutes, longer at evening rush hour.

A day at the castle and folk park

A daytime visit is a set-down and a timed collection. The folk park is a recreated 19th-century village spread over a large site, so allow at least two to three hours if the group wants both the castle and the park. Agree the collection time at the door before the group goes in, so everyone knows where to meet.

The evening banquet

The medieval banquet is a four-course meal inside the castle, with entertainment and a welcome taste of mead. It is not suitable for children under four. Book the banquet first and confirm the sitting time on the booking, then give that time to the operator. The return run is set from the end of the banquet. Tell the operator whether the coach should stay, or go and come back, because that changes the booking.

Pairing Bunratty with Shannon Airport

Bunratty is on the way between Shannon Airport and Limerick, so a group arriving on an early transatlantic flight can visit before checking in to a city hotel. It also works at the end of a trip: a banquet on the last night, with hotels near the airport for an early departure. Plan luggage so the cases are either on the coach or already at the hotel.

Does the driver wait during the banquet?

That is agreed when you book. Some groups keep the coach on site and some arrange a return pickup. The terms for either are set out on the quote.

How long does it take from Limerick city to Bunratty?

About 20 minutes on the N18 in normal traffic. Allow extra time on a weekday evening, when the road out of the city is busy.
