About Cliffs of Moher
- Ireland's most-visited natural attraction, 214-metre sea cliffs on the Clare coast reached by a scenic hour-long coach run south.
- Nearest base: Galway
The route through Ennis and Lahinch
The coach takes the N18 and M18 north towards Ennis and leaves at Junction 12 for the N85 to Ennistymon. From there it follows the N67 to Lahinch and turns onto the R478 through Liscannor. About 5.6 km past Liscannor the coach park entrance is on the left, and the car park is on the right. The visitor centre gives the run from Limerick as about 75 minutes. The last stretch along the coast is slower than the motorway, especially in summer.
Booking and the coach park
The visitor experience requires all coach arrivals, and any group of ten or more, to book in advance. The cliffs side of the road is kept for coaches and for cars displaying a disabled parking permit, so a coach group does not have to cross to reach the entrance. From the visitor centre there are about 800 metres of paved paths to the viewing areas. The centre is wheelchair accessible, and two electric mobility buggies are available, subject to demand.
Weather and the rest of the day
Fog and wind on the cliffs come and go quickly, and the visitor centre tells arrivals about visibility when they get there. Leave time for a later look if the morning is grey. Lahinch, on the way, has a long beach, and Doolin is a short drive north of the cliffs. A half-day trip from Limerick covers the cliffs; a full day adds one of those or the Burren.
Is advance booking needed for a group visit to the cliffs?
Yes. Every coach arrival must be booked ahead, as must any party of ten people or more. Have the booking confirmed before the coach day is set.
How far do people walk from the coach?
The coach parks on the cliffs side, close to the visitor centre. From there paved paths run about 800 metres along the cliff top, and the group can turn back whenever it likes.
