The road north

The coach goes north on the M1, which becomes the A1 at the border, and passes Newry. The A1 is dual carriageway to Sprucefield near Lisburn, where it meets the M1. The coach then heads west on the M1 towards Moira and turns north on the A26 to the airport near Aldergrove. Once over the border, speed limits and road signs are in miles per hour. Our listed time is for a clear run, so leave a margin before check-in.

Crossing into the UK

There are no immigration controls on the land border, and the coach drives straight across. That does not remove the paperwork. Visitors who are not British or Irish citizens need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation or a visa before they enter Northern Ireland, unless they are legal residents of Ireland from a visa-exempt country. Airlines ask for photo ID at the airport anyway. Northern Ireland uses sterling, so the group needs sterling or cards for anything bought at the airport.

At the airport

Belfast International has a coach park beside the terminal, behind the taxi rank, where scheduled coaches also stand, and a charge applies to use it. Your driver sets the group down there or at the point the airport directs, and the terminal is a short walk. Give the operator the flight time and the airline's check-in deadline. For an early departure, the coach leaves Dundalk while the roads are empty, which helps.

Will we be stopped at the border?

No. There are no immigration checks on the Ireland-Northern Ireland land border. Non-British and non-Irish visitors still need a UK ETA or visa before travelling.

How early should we leave Dundalk?

Count back from the airline's bag-drop cut-off, allowing the hour's drive and a margin for traffic near Belfast. The operator will advise on the exact time.

Can the same coach collect us when we fly back?

Yes, if you book the return leg. Send the inbound flight number so the pickup can be planned around the landing.
