Waterford to Rosslare Europort by Coach or Minibus

This is a run to catch a boat. Rosslare Europort sits at the far end of the N25 in the south-east corner of County Wexford, with sailings to Wales, France and Spain. Work the departure time back from the ferry company's check-in deadline, not from the sailing time.

The N25 east

The coach leaves Waterford across the Suir and follows the N25 east through the south of County Kilkenny to the Barrow. The New Ross bypass crosses the river on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge, the longest bridge in Ireland. From there the road runs on through County Wexford, skirts Wexford town and ends at Rosslare Harbour at the port. Much of it is single carriageway, and lorries heading for the port and farm traffic set the pace.

Timing against the sailing

Each ferry company sets its own check-in deadline for foot passengers, and it differs between companies and routes, so check the time on each booking. Plan the coach so the group arrives with that deadline met plus a margin for traffic, a slow tractor or a comfort stop. The time in the facts list assumes clear roads; for a sailing, treat it as the minimum and leave Waterford earlier rather than later. If several sailings are involved, plan to the earliest.

At the terminal

Foot passengers check in at the desk inside the ferry terminal building. The coach sets the group down outside the main terminal building, where the port's bus facilities are, and the group carries its bags inside. The terminal has toilets, a passenger lounge and a coffee shop for the wait. If anyone in the group needs help boarding, tell the ferry company when booking, not on the day.

Luggage and vehicle choice

Ferry groups tend to pack heavily: large cases, sports kit, sometimes bicycles. A full-size coach with underfloor bays takes it all; a minibus may need a trailer or a second vehicle. Count the bags when you book and say if bicycles are coming, as they take more room than suitcases. If the group is spread over several hotels, collect from one meeting point so the loading is done once.

Is there a shorter way across the estuary?

The Passage East–Ballyhack ferry crosses Waterford Harbour, but its published tickets are for cars and small vans. Plan a coach by road via New Ross.

How early should we leave Waterford?

Take the ferry company's foot-passenger check-in deadline, subtract the drive time and add a margin. The operator can advise once you confirm the sailing.
