The route east
From the airport the coach takes the N27 and then the N40 South Ring Road east, through the Jack Lynch Tunnel under the River Lee, to the Dunkettle Interchange. The N25 starts there. It runs as dual carriageway past Carrigtwohill and Midleton, then becomes a two-lane road through East Cork. It bypasses Youghal, crosses the Blackwater into County Waterford and passes Dungarvan on the way to Waterford. On the single-carriageway stretches, behind farm traffic, progress is steady rather than fast.
At Cork Airport
The airport sends private coaches and minibuses to Bays C and D, outside the terminal's main doors. Share every flight number with the operator so a late landing is seen early. If your group arrives on different flights, decide in advance whether the coach waits for the last one or runs twice; a long wait at the airport adds to the day before the drive starts. Count suitcases too. A ninety-minute transfer with full luggage needs a vehicle with underfloor bays or a separate van.
Breaking the journey
Ninety minutes is short enough to run straight through, and drivers' hours rules do not call for a break on a trip this length. Groups off a long-haul flight often want one anyway. Dungarvan, about three-quarters of the way along, is the natural place to pause for toilets and a coffee, and Youghal works earlier on the route. Agree the stop when you book so the driver can plan where the coach waits.
Arriving in Waterford
Waterford's centre runs along the quay on the south bank of the Suir. For groups starting with the Viking Triangle, Waterford Treasures directs coaches to drop passengers by the Bishop's Palace on The Mall and to park at Bolton Street. The only toll near the city is on the N25 bypass where it bridges the Suir; whether the coach uses it depends on where your hotel is. Hotels in Tramore or Dunmore East add another 20 to 25 minutes.
