Out of Waterford and up the M9

The M9 starts on the north side of the Suir, so a coach leaving the city centre crosses the river at Rice Bridge to reach the N9 and the start of the motorway. The M9 runs north for 119 km past Mullinavat, Knocktopher, the Kilkenny junctions, Paulstown, Carlow and Athy. There is no toll on it. It joins the M7 at junction 11 near Kilcullen, and the M7 carries on past Naas towards Dublin.

Dublin Airport

Flights mean the M50. The coach turns north onto it from the M7 and passes the toll point between junction 6 and junction 7, which has no barriers; the charge is settled afterwards. Any coach may drop passengers on the Terminal 2 Departures Road Inner, beside T2 check-in, and a Terminal 1 flight is only a few minutes' walk from there. Set the departure from Waterford by the airline's check-in and bag-drop deadlines, not by the flight time, and allow for the M50 at peak hours.

City centre and match days

To reach the centre the coach stays on the N7 Naas Road, clear of the M50 toll. Central Dublin has bus gates: College Green runs 24 hours, and the Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay gates close the quays to through traffic from 7am to 7pm. Coaches drop off at signed coach stops, and the on-street coach bays are for parking only, for up to two hours. If the trip is for a big game at Croke Park, read the Garda traffic plan: on recent final days coaches could not set down on the roads around the ground and were sent to park in the Docklands.

Where do we stop for a break?

Two hours of driving does not need a driver's break, but many groups stop anyway. Carlow, about halfway, is a common choice; agree the stop at booking.

Can the coach collect us after a concert or match?

Yes. Agree a pickup point and time with the operator in advance. Event days bring road closures, and the driver confirms the stop once the Garda traffic plan is published.

Is Dublin or Cork the better airport for Waterford?

Dublin is about two hours away and Cork about an hour and a half. Pick the airport with the better flights for your group; the road time differs by only half an hour.
