Tralee to Listowel by Coach or Minibus
Listowel is about 27 km north-east of Tralee on the N69. It is a small market town with a literary reputation, a seasonal castle and one of the biggest race meetings in Ireland. Groups go for a museum visit, Writers' Week in June or the September racing.

The run and the Square
The coach takes the N69 north-east out of Tralee to Listowel, about half an hour with no tolls. The Square is the centre of the town, and the Kerry Writers' Museum there notes free coach parking in the Square, with a free public car park behind the museum. That makes the Square the natural set-down and collection point. Listowel Castle stands on the same square, so the main sights are a short walk from the coach.
What a group can book
The Kerry Writers' Museum offers performance guided tours for groups of ten or more; book ahead. It opens Monday to Friday most of the year and on Saturdays as well in summer. Listowel Castle is managed by the OPW, opens daily in the main season from late spring to late September, and is visited by guided tour only, with steep winding stairs. The Lartigue Monorail, on John B Keane Road about seven minutes' walk from the Square, opens on summer afternoons.
Writers' Week and race week
Listowel Writers' Week in June brings readings and events across the town, so the Square is busier. The Harvest Festival race meeting in September runs for a week at Listowel Racecourse and draws very large crowds. On race days, book early, agree a fixed pickup point away from the racecourse gates, and expect the run back to Tralee to take longer.

The Square has free coach parking, and it sits next to the Writers' Museum and the castle. On race week or during a festival, the driver confirms the stopping point on the day.
Is Listowel open to visitors all year?
The museum is open on weekdays year-round, but the castle and the monorail are seasonal, roughly late spring to the end of September. Check opening dates before booking an off-season trip.
