Tralee to Limerick by Coach or Minibus

Two roads link Tralee and Limerick. The N21 runs inland through Castleisland, Abbeyfeale and Adare, and the N69 follows the Shannon Estuary through Listowel, Tarbert and Foynes. The N21 is the usual choice when time matters; the N69 suits a group that wants stops along the way.

The N21 line

The coach heads east from Tralee to Castleisland and stays on the N21 through Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West and Adare to the M20 outside Limerick. That is about 105 km and the faster of the two routes. A short break in Adare, where the Heritage Centre on Main Street has coach-friendly parking at the rear, splits the run well. Traffic slows around Adare at busy times, so allow a margin before an appointment in the city.

The coast road option

The N69 runs north-east from Tralee through Listowel, then along the south shore of the Shannon Estuary through Tarbert, Glin and Foynes before reaching Limerick past Askeaton. It is a slower road than the N21. At Foynes, the Flying Boat Museum keeps the original radio and weather room and a full-size replica Boeing 314, which makes a good stop for a school or a club. Ask the operator to time the run if the group is meeting a fixed start in Limerick.

Where the run ends

Kerry supporters travel to Thomond Park for Munster rugby, and the University of Limerick and Castletroy hotels lie on the east side of the city. For Shannon Airport, the coach leaves the N21 approach for the N18 and uses the tolled Limerick Tunnel beneath the river. Give the operator the full address of the drop, because the best line into the city depends on it.

How long does Tralee to Limerick take by coach?

The facts list gives the time on the N21. The N69 coast road takes longer, and any stops add to either route.

Can the coach take us straight to Shannon Airport from Tralee?

Yes. The route continues past Limerick on the N18 through the tolled Limerick Tunnel. Send the flight time so the pickup in Tralee is set from it.
