Drogheda to Slane Castle by Coach or Minibus
Slane Castle is about 20 minutes west of Drogheda, upriver on the Boyne. Groups come for a guided tour of the house, for the distillery on the estate, for weddings and dinners, and for the summer concerts. The castle is not a walk-in attraction, so book the visit before the coach.

Along the Boyne
The coach leaves Drogheda westward on the N51, which follows the valley to Slane. It is a national road with farm traffic, tractors in season and a few tight bends. The castle estate is just outside the village. The driver confirms the entrance and stopping point with the castle when the tour is booked, as tours, events and the distillery do not all use the same gate.
Castle tours by appointment
The castle and grounds open by appointment only. Private guided tours run all year on request, last about an hour, take up to 25 people and must be booked at least a week ahead, subject to a guide being free. Public tours run only on a few dates a year. A coach party larger than 25 needs two tour slots, so allow time for half the group to wait or visit the distillery in between.
Concert days
Slane Castle hosts occasional major concerts in summer. On those days local roads are closed or controlled for miles around, and traffic from Drogheda moves slowly from early in the day. Book concert transport as soon as the date is announced, leave much earlier than the 20-minute run suggests, and agree the pickup point in advance, as it will be set by the event traffic plan rather than at the gate.
Can we just turn up at Slane Castle with a group?
No. Visits are by appointment, so book a private tour with the castle at least a week ahead, then book the coach to match the tour time.
Is the distillery the same booking as the castle?
No. The distillery on the estate takes its own group bookings. If you want both, book each and tell the operator both times so the day runs in the right order.
