Drogheda to Dublin City by Coach or Minibus
Dublin city centre is about 50 minutes from Drogheda by coach. Groups from Louth and east Meath make the trip for matches at Croke Park, concerts, theatre, shopping and school outings. The motorway part is quick; the time goes on the last few kilometres into the centre.

M1, then tunnel or Drumcondra
The coach takes the M1 south, passing the Balgeen toll plaza just below Drogheda, and continues past the airport. At the city end it has two ways in. The Dublin Port Tunnel leads straight to the docklands and the north quays; it carries no toll for a coach above 25 seats, though minibuses pay. The other line runs on through Drumcondra towards O'Connell Street. The driver picks one based on where the group is going.
Getting off in the centre
Coaches in Dublin set down and pick up at signed coach stops, and cannot load passengers in the paid coach bays. Getting across the river is the awkward part: Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay are buses-only by day, and College Green is shut to through traffic at all hours. For a long stay the coach can lay over off the street at the NTA's docklands coach park, whose entrance is off North Wall Quay.
Getting home again
The return is where most delay happens. Evening traffic leaving the city on the M1 and around the M50 interchange is heavy on weekdays, and a concert or match empties into the same roads. Agree a pickup point away from the busiest streets, and a time that allows for the crowd leaving the venue. Once clear of the airport junction, the run home to Drogheda is fast.
Can you take us to Croke Park on a match day?
Yes, but not to the gate. When a big game is on, the roads ringing the stadium are closed to coach drop-offs and pickups, and for recent All-Ireland finals the Gardaí provided no coach set-down nearby. Expect to walk from a point the Gardaí traffic plan allows.
Is the Port Tunnel always the quickest way in?
For anything east of the Custom House, such as the 3Arena, it usually is. For O'Connell Street, Parnell Square or the north inner city, the Drumcondra route can be just as quick, depending on traffic.
