Drogheda to Newgrange (Brú na Bóinne) by Coach or Minibus
From Drogheda, the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre at Donore is about 20 minutes by coach, on the south side of the Boyne. Every visit to Newgrange starts there. Because the drive is so short, the day is built entirely around the timed tour slot, and the coach can fit in other stops before or after.

Visitor centre, not the tomb
Do not head for Newgrange itself. The OPW says visitors who go straight to the monuments will not be let in. The coach sets down at the visitor centre in Donore, which has coach parking, toilets and a café. From there the group crosses the river on a footbridge and boards the OPW shuttle bus to the tombs. The coach stays at the visitor centre or comes back for the end of the tour.
Booking the slot
Groups of 15 to 30 people must arrange their visit with the OPW in advance rather than booking online as individuals. Tickets bought from other sellers are not valid; only the official booking site and the visitor centre sell them. Summer slots go early, so secure the group time before you book the coach, and send the operator the time so the pickup in Drogheda is set from it.
How long to allow
From spring to autumn, the standard visit includes the exhibition and guided tours of Knowth and the Newgrange chamber, about three hours in all. In winter only Newgrange is visited, and two hours is usual. The visitor centre opens at 9am or 9:30am and closes from about 4:15pm in winter to 5:45pm in summer. A school group can be back in Drogheda by lunchtime after a morning slot.
Can the coach take us to the tomb itself?
No. Access to Newgrange and Knowth is only by the OPW shuttle from the visitor centre, so the coach parks there and the group transfers on foot and by shuttle.
What else can we add from Drogheda?
Monasterboice, the 1690 battlefield at Oldbridge and Slane are each within about 20 minutes. One of them fits comfortably before or after a Newgrange slot.
