Bray to Dublin City by Coach or Minibus

Bray is about 20 km south of the city centre, and a coach covers it in roughly 35 minutes when the commuter traffic is light. Groups staying in Bray use the run for a day in town, a show, a dinner or a match, with the coach bringing them back down the coast afterwards.

Which way in

The direct road is the N11 through Cabinteely, Stillorgan and Donnybrook, which brings the coach into the south side of the centre near St Stephen's Green. It carries heavy traffic inbound in the morning and outbound in the evening. For places on the west side of the city, such as Kilmainham or St James's Gate, the driver may go up the M11 and round the M50 instead. Which line is faster depends on the hour, so the driver chooses on the day.

Where the group gets off

Dublin City Council marks coach stops in the centre, such as the one on Nassau Street, for setting down and picking up only. Its paid coach bays, 67 spaces at 19 sites including Merrion Square South and Grand Canal Place, are for parking with a two-hour limit, not for loading. Bus gates keep through traffic off two central quays, Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay, during the day, and College Green is closed to it at all hours. The nearest legal stop to your venue can therefore be a short walk from its door.

Day and evening returns

For a day in town the coach sets down, goes off to park or back to base, and returns at a time and place you agree before leaving Bray. For an evening out, fix the collection point in advance and make sure the group leader has the driver's mobile number on the night. Late returns down the N11 are usually quick once the evening traffic has gone. If the gap between the two runs is long, the operator plans the driver's duty hours around it.

Can the coach wait at the kerb all day?

No. City-centre stops are for setting down and picking up, and the paid coach bays have a two-hour limit. For a long wait the coach moves to an off-street layover such as the National Transport Authority coach park in the docklands, then returns for the pickup.

Why hire a coach when Bray is on the DART?

For a large party, a school group or anyone with limited mobility, a coach goes from the hotel to the nearest legal stop and back without changes or crowded peak trains. For a few people heading straight to the centre, the DART from Bray Daly may suit just as well.
