At the airport
Shannon has a single terminal, and no minibus or coach is allowed to park in front of it. Vehicles wait in the airport's own coach parks; Coach Park 2, next to departures, also takes on-hire minibuses. Where the driver meets the group is settled in advance with the operator. Pass on the flight number, and the pick-up is arranged around the landing.
The road
From the airport the N19 runs out to junction 9 of the M18. Turning north, the coach keeps to the motorway past Newmarket-on-Fergus to the Ennis junctions. No toll applies, and away from the morning and evening peaks the run takes about 20 minutes. For a group continuing beyond Ennis, the same motorway carries on north to Gort and Galway.
Setting down in Ennis
Ennis town centre is medieval and its streets are narrow. Friar's Walk coach park, beside glór, the town's arts venue, has 14 coach spaces and a sheltered drop-off and pick-up point about 100 m from the centre. Ennis holds Coach Friendly Destination status, and bye-laws enforced by traffic wardens cover its coach parking. For hotels outside the core, the coach can usually reach the door.

Flights from North America tend to land at Shannon early in the morning, before hotel rooms are ready. Many groups use the first morning for Bunratty or a gentle start rather than going straight to the hotel; tell the operator, and the transfer can include a stop. On the journey home, anyone bound for the United States goes through US immigration and customs at Shannon itself before boarding, so build in extra airport time.
Is Ennis a practical base after landing at Shannon?
For Clare, yes. Ennis is within an hour of the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and Bunratty, and it has hotels in the town centre and on the Clare and Lahinch roads.
