Ennis to Cliffs of Moher by Coach or Minibus
From Ennis the Cliffs of Moher are the nearest of the big Clare day trips: west through Inagh and Ennistymon to Lahinch, then up the coast road through Liscannor. The cliffs have firm rules for coach groups, and the booking comes before anything else.

About Cliffs of Moher
- Ireland's most-visited natural attraction, 214-metre sea cliffs on the Clare coast reached by a scenic hour-long coach run south.
- Nearest base: Galway
Through north Clare to the coast
The coach takes the N85 out of Ennis towards Ennistymon, through the village of Inagh. At Ennistymon there is a sharp left onto the N67 for Lahinch, and at Lahinch a right turn onto the R478, signed for the cliffs. Liscannor comes next, and the coach park entrance is about 5.6 km beyond the village, on the left. The visitor centre puts Ennis about 40 minutes away. Town streets in Ennistymon and Lahinch slow a coach in summer, which is why the planning figure is 45 minutes.
Booking rules for coach groups
Any group of ten or more arriving by coach must be booked with the Cliffs of Moher Experience at least 72 hours ahead. Groups of that size cannot use the standard online tickets; the bookings team handles them directly. Book the entry first, then give the operator your arrival time so the departure from Ennis is worked back from it.
On arrival
Coaches have access to the cliffs side of the road, where the visitor centre is; the main car park for cars is across the road. Toilets stand beside the coach park entrance, and the visitor centre has more on both floors. About 3.5 km of paths run along the cliff top, and the centre is fully wheelchair accessible. The centre recommends around two hours on site, so a morning or an afternoon from Ennis is realistic.
Turning it into a day
Many Ennis groups add Doolin, just north along the R478, for lunch and traditional music, or carry on into the Burren and come home through Kilfenora and Corofin on the R476. Either turns a short trip into a full day. In summer the coast road is shared with cars and cyclists, and the cliffs fill from late morning, so an early start pays off.
How long does a Cliffs of Moher trip from Ennis take altogether?
With roughly 45 minutes on the road in each direction plus about two hours at the cliffs, the visit fits a half day. Add time for Doolin or the Burren if you plan a longer outing.
Can we visit in winter?
Yes. Coach day trips run to the cliffs all year, though winter daylight is short and the paths are exposed to wind and rain. Check opening hours for your date and bring waterproofs.
