Killarney to Dublin by Coach or Minibus

Killarney to Dublin crosses most of the country, from the south-west corner to the east coast. A coach can take one of two lines, through Limerick or through Mallow, and both reach Dublin on the M7. Plan a comfort stop, the toll points and the exact drop-off at the Dublin end.

Two ways across the country

One line runs north on the N22 and N23 past Kerry Airport to Castleisland, then follows the N21 east via Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West, through Adare and on to Limerick, where the coach joins the M7. The other runs east on the N72 to Mallow, the N73 to Mitchelstown and the M8 north. The M8 merges into the M7 near Portlaoise, so both routes share the final stretch to Dublin. The driver picks between them on the day according to traffic and roadworks.

Tolls and stops on the motorway

Whichever line the driver takes, the coach goes through the M7/M8 toll plaza at Fatharnagh, which stands on the M7 west of Portlaoise, after the point where the M8 joins. A drop at Dublin Airport means using the M50 northbound, and the stretch from Junction 7 to Junction 6 carries a toll with no booths or barriers, settled online after the trip where the vehicle has no tag. Plan a comfort stop at a motorway service area, and a second for a school group or older passengers.

Dropping off in Dublin

Dublin Airport has strict rules for coaches. Dropping off is allowed for every coach on the Terminal 2 departures road, by the check-in hall, but a private coach collecting passengers must do so from the Zone 16 coach park. In the city centre, the council's coach bays cannot be used for loading; groups get on and off at the marked coach stops, Nassau Street among them. Bus gates restrict the central quays by day and College Green around the clock, and they dictate the approach to a central hotel, so send the operator the hotel address early.

Can we reach Dublin Airport in time for an afternoon flight if we leave Killarney in the morning?

Usually, if the departure from Killarney is set by working back from check-in, adding the drive time, a comfort stop and spare time for the M50. Send the flight time with the booking and the operator sets the pickup from it.

Does the coach have to stop for a break on the way?

The law gives a driver 4.5 hours at the wheel before a 45-minute break is due. The motorway run should come in under that, though passengers will still want a comfort stop on a trip of this length.
