Athlone to Tullamore by Coach or Minibus
Tullamore, the county town of Offaly, is about 35 minutes from Athlone. Most groups going there are on a whiskey day, a corporate outing or a canal walk. The road is quick. The detail to get right is the distillery booking, because its tours are small.

The route
The coach leaves Athlone on the M6 eastbound and comes off where the N52 meets the motorway at Kilbeggan. From there the N52 runs south into Tullamore. It is national road all the way, wide enough for a full-size coach, and there is no toll on it. Kilbeggan, at the turn, has its own distillery, so some groups make it the first stop of a two-distillery day before heading on to Tullamore.
The Tullamore D.E.W. distillery
The distillery experience is at Clonminch, about ten minutes from the town centre, and it has free bus parking for larger groups. Each guided tour takes about 105 minutes and carries no more than eight people, and it is for over-18s only. A group of 30 therefore needs several tour slots, staggered through the day, and booking ahead is recommended. Agree the slots with the distillery first, then send the operator the first and last tour times.
Filling the rest of the day
The Grand Canal runs through Tullamore, and its towpath makes an easy walk while one half of a split group is on tour. Lunch in town works well between slots. If your group includes under-18s, plan a separate activity for them, since they cannot join the distillery tour. On the return, the coach goes back the same way, and Athlone is reached in a little over half an hour.
